 Program Administration Scale: The Why, What, How                (CDA-5)

 This workshop tells about the skills children develop in a language arts early 
 learning center, equipment and materials that can be included and ways to 
 accomplish the many ideas provided. This session includes storytelling and 
 language arts ideas, easy props, patterns and information to enrich a child's 
 application of language and stories in a fun early learning center.
 PAS: Using the Program Administration Scale in Your Program
 
Participants will utilize the scale through skill building scenarios, small group 
 discussions, and interpretation of scores. Participants will have hands-on 
 experience in using the scale as well as in using the tool in their individual 
 centers. Each administrator will create an action plan and support network 
 to use for implementation in each program.

 English Language Arts, Session 1: – Reading

 Participants will examine ways to support literacy in the early childhood 
 environment through implementation of the Ohio Early Learning Content 
 Standards. Language experiences across the developmental areas, how 
 reading and writing is embedded into every day experiences, and how 
 teachers can support language and literacy development. Children learn 
 language within a social context.  Teachers can provide contexts that 
 encourage children’s language development through their intentional 
 planning.  This session will cover phonemic awareness, word recognition, 
 and fluency such as the use of rhymes, playing with sounds and speech, 
 and taking words apart.  Activities to support learning, acquisition of 
 vocabulary, and application of principles into the classroom will be explored.

Participants explore ways to support the writing process, writing convention 
 and the oral/visual standards as described through the Ohio Early Learning

 children within every day contexts and opportunities will be discussed.  
 Participants will experience describing, listing and planning activities that 
 will support implementation of the standards. Participants will be actively 
 engaged in discussing ways of locating resources for families that support 
 the English Language Arts of the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards.

 and be able to locate and describe other materials that can be made at low
